HIV Test: Accurate Screening for HIV-1 and HIV-2 – Fast & Confidential Results
This test checks for HIV, the sexually transmitted virus that, if left untreated, can progress to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Many people with HIV may not experience symptoms, which is why regular testing is essential, especially for sexually active individuals who have unprotected sex. Screening helps you stay informed about your sexual health.
The HIV test detects both HIV antibodies (HIV-1 and HIV-2) and HIV antigens, providing a comprehensive result. Testing is the only way to know for sure if you have HIV.
What’s Tested
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a viral, sexually transmitted infection that, if left untreated, can progress to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). HIV attacks the immune system, weakening the body’s ability to fight infections. Early on, many people with HIV may have few or no symptoms, making it easy to unknowingly spread the virus through unprotected sex.
HIV is transmitted through contact with infected semen, vaginal fluids, breast milk, or blood. There are two types of HIV: HIV-1 and HIV-2, with HIV-1 being the most common. Our test detects both types of HIV.
While there is no cure for HIV or AIDS, there are effective treatments that can slow the progression of the disease. Without treatment, HIV can severely damage the immune system and eventually lead to AIDS.
Confirmation Testing
If your test result is positive, the lab will conduct a follow-up confirmation test using the same sample, at no additional cost. This is done to verify the result, following standard guidelines, before it is reported.
