D-Dimer Test

Sale price $115.00

The D-dimer test is a diagnostic blood test used to evaluate the presence of abnormal clotting activity in the body. Elevated levels of D-dimer can suggest the formation of blood clots, potentially indicating conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), or disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). If D-dimer levels are elevated, your healthcare provider may recommend additional laboratory tests or imaging studies to further investigate and confirm a diagnosis.

Why Might You Need a D-Dimer Test?

A D-dimer test may be necessary if you present symptoms suggestive of a blood clotting disorder, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE).

Symptoms of DVT (typically in the legs) include:

  • Pain or tenderness in the leg
  • Swelling in the affected leg
  • Red or discolored skin on the leg
  • Warmth or increased temperature in the area

Symptoms of PE (which can occur in the lungs) include:

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Persistent cough, which may produce blood
  • Chest pain, particularly when breathing deeply
  • Rapid heart rate or breathing

If you experience any of these symptoms, your healthcare provider may recommend a D-dimer test to help assess the likelihood of a blood clotting disorder and guide further evaluation.

Do I Need to Prepare for the Test?

No special preparation is required for a D-dimer test. You can typically continue your normal activities and diet before the test. However, it's always best to follow any specific instructions given by your healthcare provider.
